Foursquare gets a Facelift, Reveals new Logo and App
Foursquare has joined the league of being a social media app who recently went through a makeover and gave itself greater functionality with a new look and a redesigned logo. Now the users can not only check in their location from anywhere in the world but also search places in the vicinity.
The rebranding strategy of Foursquare will help them compete with the other popular local search platforms like Google Places and Yelp.com. The change that the company has brought to the current app is so drastic that they also introduced another app simultaneously called Swarm in May to let its 50 million users still use the check in facility. The decision to split the two apps was based on the data that suggested that people used foursquare to either search the places or check in. However, there were rarely cases when users used both the features. Since they were drifting apart in functionality, the company decided to split the two.
Swarm is capable of integrating with Foursquare effortlessly which also enable the users to vary forward their check in history to the new app. Analysts have called the move an interesting one if not risky. Being in competition with Yelp, Foursquare would have to bring something new to the table for the market that is already existent. The idea is to enhance the user experience without making it complicated.
As per the feedback collected by the company for Swarm users, there have been few complaints about the missing foursquare features but overall they have received positive reception for the new app. About three fourth of the users have already made the switch to the new app. The app’s look has also been changed with a new logo.
