SPHERE – A boon or curse?
Recently many technologies are being created to put the human effort to zero. One such technology is the SPHERE created by NASA and Google. This technology has snatched the opportunities of the many astronauts who have trained their entire life for a travel to space. SPHERE as the name states is a spherical object that hovers over the hall of International Space Stations. It was programmed to do simple jobs that are usually performed by astronauts. In future Tango SPHERE can be programmed to perform risky works that are performed outside the station.
On July 11th the first SPHERE is planned to be sent to the ISS via Orbital Science uncanned Cygnus spacecraft. It will be launched at the top of an Antares rocket. Orbital Science has a commercial contract with NASA to act as a ferry to take supplies to and from ISS. This time Cygnus will carry goodies required for astronauts along with handful of SPHEREs. SPHERE stands for Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, and Experimental satellite. Tango SPHERE moves in the environment using the CO2 thrusters that are created in built to levitate the ISS hall.
This SPHERE has a brain of its own that can help astronauts on their tasks. This SPHERE with their brain can completely carry out the task without the assist of the astronauts. The team has said that the main reason for inventing such technology is to save the lives of people who do more dangerous jobs in space. This is just an experiment project and if this succeeds then the technology will be updated to do the jobs that are more risky for human. However this is great invention unless it doesn’t turn out to be robotic.
